We are looking forward to hearing you perform. The following guidelines should prove helpful as you prepare for your audition:

INSTRUMENTALISTS should prepare one or two pieces (they need not be memorized). Material demonstrating tone quality and technical proficiency, such as that for a district or state ensemble audition, a contest piece, an etude, or a characteristic study, is appropriate. You may be asked to sight-read. A piano for accompanying the solos will not be available. However, a CD/tape player will be available for those who bring a recorded accompaniment.

VOCALISTS should come with two contest-type solos prepared. You will want to choose music which will demonstrate your tonal capacities and technique. The music need not be memorized. You may bring your own accompanist, or we will provide one.

PIANISTS should be prepared to perform two and preferably three contrasting pieces, two of which should be memorized. These pieces should be from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, or 20th Century periods. You will be asked to sight-read at the end of the audition.

PERCUSSIONISTS should be prepared to play at least two of the following: A solo/etude on keyboard percussion (marimba/xylo/vibes), snare drum, timpani, styles on drumset (swing, rock, funk, latin, etc.).
